All spinal Orthopaedic Consultants ("Orthospine") are based at the QEUH.

 

The current Orthopaedic Spinal Team at QEUH includes, Mr Alex Augustithis, Mr Nicholas Brownson, Mr. Niall Craig, Mr. Fraser Dean and Mr. Anthony Gibson.

For all patients with spinal trauma, please note the guidelines below "Spinal Trauma Guidelines for Referring Hospitals", and refer appropriately to Orthospine, Neurosurgery or Spinal Injury Teams.

This new referral form does not replace the current pathway for referrals:

• All C Spine injuries refer to Neurosurgery

• Thoracolumbar fractures without neurological compromise refer to Orthospine

• Thoracolumbar fractures with neurological compromise refer to Spinal Injuries

• All Cauda Equina referrals to Neurosurgery. Orthospine do not have access to MRI scanning out of hours. 

 

All referrals to the Orthopaedic Spinal team must include an email to all five Orthopaedic Spinal Consultants (addresses in attached form) and include a completed ‘Spinal Trauma Referral Form’. In addition, referral to the On-Call Orthopaedic Registrar at the QEUH via 0141 452 2735 / 82735 must be made.

Referrals for management advice should not be delayed until the Thursday MDT. Please send as soon as possible.

 

Please note the Orthopaedic Spinal Team do not have emergency 24 hours a day, 7 days a week cover. Out of Hours please contact Neurosurgery.
